Celebrity endorsements
Published December 6th, 2006 in Advertising.From time immemorial (what a boring way to begin!) brands have been using celebrities to reach out to the common man. And it can’t better anywhere else other than India - a country which can actually build temples for film actresses!
India is a country that swears by idol worship. From stars like Tabassum (Prestige Pressure cooker & Kapil Dev (Palmolive) in the late 80s to SRK & Big B (still) commanding respect and selling brands / products, Celebrity endorsements have come a long way!
There are a lot of papers on celebrity endorsements, but I think showcasing one of them alongside an article would make a lot of sense. Read on and you would find why celebrity endorsements still and will continue to work in India.
An aside - There are cases where celebrities who have been associated with scandals / underperformed have been fired too! And there are cases where the ‘celebrity’ has gained more from a brand association than the brand itself. As they say, “Anything’s possible!”
